What Is a Cadre Review, and Why Does It Matter?
A cadre review looks at the structure of a service: how many posts there are at each level, and whether that structure matches today’s work and promotion needs. It can lead to new posts being created, posts being upgraded, or the share of posts at different grades being changed.
For the postal officer cadres, this matters because:
- IPoS Group ‘A’ is the top management cadre of India Post (Senior Superintendents, Directors, Postmasters General and above).
- PS Group ‘B’ officers (such as Assistant Directors and Superintendents of Post Offices) are mostly promoted from the Inspector of Posts (IP) and ASP cadre.
- Changes in these cadres can affect promotion chances further down the line – for IPs, ASPs and, over time, for PAs/SAs who move up through the IP exam.
The notice does not give the agenda or any proposals. It only calls the associations to put forward their views. Any decision will come in a separate order later.
Note: The notice is dated 15 October 2026 and fixes the meeting for the same day.
