Bhimavaram and Gudivada lead with 12 each, followed by Chittoor with 10. At the other end, Anantapur, Hindupur, Kakinada and Rajahmundry have a single post each.
That spread matters a great deal if your circle allots on merit-cum-preference. A candidate ranked mid-table with Bhimavaram or Gudivada high in their preference order has a very different outcome from one who put Kakinada first.

More than half the Sorting Assistant posts sit in RMS ‘TP’ Division alone.
Vertical Versus Horizontal Reservation — The Point Most People Get Wrong
Look at the vacancy table again. The UR, SC and ST columns add up to the total. The PwBD column does not get added on top.
That is the whole distinction, and it trips up a lot of candidates every year.
Vertical reservation is UR, SC, ST. These are separate buckets. Add them together and you get the total number of posts.
Horizontal reservation is PwBD. These posts are carved out from within the vertical categories, not added to them. A PwBD candidate is first counted against their own social category, and the PwBD slot is then adjusted inside it.
So for PA (Post Office): there are 97 posts, not 101. Four of those 97 go to PwBD candidates, and each of those four also belongs to a UR, SC or ST slot.
Get this wrong and you will miscount your own chances.
The order also spells out the legal basis, which is worth knowing if you sit any departmental exam:
- DoPT O.M. No. 36012/1/2020-Estt. (Res.-II) dated 28-12-2023 issued instructions on reservation in promotion for PwBDs
- The proviso to Section 34 of the RPwD Act, 2016 says reservation in promotion shall follow instructions issued by the appropriate Government from time to time
- DoPT O.M. No. 36012/1/2020-Estt. (Res.-II) dated 17-05-2022 fixes 4 percent of total vacancies in the cadre strength for PwBDs — within Group C, from Group C to Group B, and from Group B to the lowest rung of Group A
- Reservation in promotion applies only where the direct recruitment element in the cadre does not exceed 75 percent
That last condition is a genuinely common general-awareness question. Worth memorising the number.
Two Things Worth Noticing
One: no OBC column. The vacancy table shows UR, SC and ST only. There is no separate OBC vertical reservation in this table. This reflects how reservation in promotion is currently applied in the Department — vertical reservation in promotion covers SC and ST. If you are an OBC candidate, you compete in the UR column here. This surprises people every year, so it is better to understand it now than after the result.
Two: nothing else has changed. The order states explicitly that there is no change to any of the other instructions and guidelines issued in the notification dated 11 May 2026. Whatever that notification said about merit, tie-breaking, DEST qualifying standards and allotment still stands exactly as written. If you have not read it, read it now — that is the document your result will be calculated from.
What “Final” Actually Means
Circles usually publish vacancies twice. A tentative figure goes out with the notification so candidates know roughly what they are competing for. A final figure comes later, once retirements, promotions, transfers and newly sanctioned posts have all been settled.
The final figure is the one your merit list is drawn against.
Practically, for AP Circle candidates:
- The written exam is done (28 June)
- The DEST is done (2 August)
- The vacancy count is now locked at 122
- The result and merit list are the next thing to expect

If You Are an LGO Official in Another Circle
Every circle runs its own LGO examination with its own vacancy position. Andhra Pradesh’s 122 posts have no bearing on Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Punjab or Bihar.
But the structure is identical everywhere, and there are lessons you can use:
PA (Post Office) is always the bulk of the vacancies. Circle Office and Regional Office posts are a handful. Plan your preference order knowing that.
Division-wise numbers decide where you land, not whether you get through. Merit decides selection. Preference decides posting. Two separate things.
Final vacancy figures usually rise from tentative. Do not treat the notification number as the ceiling.
The LGO exam is the single most realistic route from MTS or Postman into PA/SA. If you are in a feeder cadre and not preparing for it, you are leaving the clearest promotion path on the table.
