The Department of Posts has issued a MOST URGENT letter revising the timelines for processing GDS Compassionate Engagement (CCE) cases.
The reason is simple: compassionate engagement cases have now been migrated from the old CCE portal (IT 1.0) to APT 2.0, and the module will be ready for Divisional CCE processing from 01.09.2026.
Because the portal has changed, the old half-yearly schedule issued in January 2026 has been replaced with a fresh one.
This is an administrative circular. It does not create any new eligibility rule, and it does not change who can apply. It only tells Circles, Regions and Divisions when each step must be completed.

What Has Actually Changed
In plain language:
- Compassionate Engagement cases used to sit on the CCE portal under IT 1.0.
- CEPT has now migrated those existing cases to APT 2.0.
- A SOP was circulated to all Circles by email on 12.08.2026, asking them to clear discrepancies in the migrated cases by 20.08.2026.

Two Deadlines That Matter Right Now
1. 20.08.2026 — discrepancy clearing (already passed) Circles were asked to clear discrepancies in cases migrated from the CCE portal IT 1.0 to APT 2.0 by this date, so that cases could move forward at CCE level.
2. 31.08.2026 — pending verification and processing All Circles have been asked to complete all pending verification and processing of Compassionate Engagement cases by 31.08.2026. The letter specifically states this includes cases received under the one time relaxation scheme.
CEPT has separately been asked to finish pending development work and carry out adequate testing so that the portal has a smooth, stable and reliable Go-Live on the scheduled date.
Revised Half-Yearly CCE Schedule (Annexure-A)
The Annexure describes the timelines as tentative. Here is the full schedule exactly as issued.
Stage 1 — CCE Meeting and Approval by the Competent Authority

What the AD/APMG at RO/CO level does (11–25 September): The AD/APMG will examine each case submitted by the CCE and record observations or discrepancies, if any, as one of the following:

- In case of difference of opinion with the CCE in an individual case — record observations/comments
What the competent authority (DPS/PMG/CPMG) does: The competent authority will record its own remarks as follows:
- Approved
- Rejected
- In case of difference of opinion with the CCE in an individual case — either accept the observations/comments of the AD/APMG, or record its own observations (including Approved/Rejected)
- Reversal for clarification or rectification from or by the Division, if any
About the second window (26 October – 10 November): The letter states this window will be used for reversal and rectification of individual cases that were not reverted earlier, and for cases based on clarification received from the Division.
Two important lines from the Annexure:
- The final decision (Approved / Rejected) will be taken by the competent authority.
- No cases will be carried forward to the next CCE.
That second line is significant. Every pending case in this cycle has to be decided within this cycle.

Why the Post Preference Window Deserves Attention
Look at Stage 3 carefully. The recommended candidate submits their post preference between 19 and 25 November, and the final allotment follows on 30 November.
That is a seven-day window. It is the only point in this entire cycle where the candidate personally has something to do, and it comes after months of departmental processing.
Families going through a compassionate engagement case are usually dealing with a great deal at once, and a seven-day window is easy to miss. Anyone assisting such a family — a Divisional office, an SPM, a union representative, or a colleague — should make sure the candidate knows this window is coming and is contactable during it.
What This Circular Does NOT Say
We are stating these plainly so nobody works from assumptions:
- It does not change the eligibility criteria for GDS Compassionate Engagement.
- It does not define or explain the “one time relaxation scheme”. It only says pending cases received under it must be cleared by 31.08.2026.
- It does not expand the abbreviation “PE letter”. Do not assume what it stands for — confirm with your Divisional Office.
- It does not state what happens to a case that cannot be decided within the cycle, beyond the line that no cases will be carried forward.
- It does not give a link, login process or user manual for the APT 2.0 module. The SOP was shared with Circles by email on 12.08.2026 — request it through your Division.
- The Annexure heading itself describes these as tentative timelines. Dates may shift.
For anything not written in the circular, follow only what your Divisional Office or Circle Office confirms in writing.

- Contact your Divisional Office and confirm your case has been migrated correctly to APT 2.0 and shows no discrepancy.
- Confirm your contact details on record are current.
- Stay reachable and responsive between 19 and 25 November, when post preference has to be submitted.
