How Is the Seniority Fixed?
The seniority is worked out under Rule 9 of the Indian Postal Service (Group ‘A’) Recruitment Rules, 2017 and the Department’s O.M. No. 25-7/2019-SPG dated 19 August 2019.
Each officer’s total (out of 3000) adds up marks from three stages:
- Civil Services Examination 2021 (the UPSC exam through which they were selected)
- Foundation Course (the common training for all new civil service officers)
- Probationary training in the Department of Posts
The higher the total, the higher the officer’s place in the batch.
Why Is One Officer’s Score Missing?
Shri Anshuman of Bihar Circle has not yet completed his Foundation Course, so his Foundation Course marks are not available. For now he is placed at number 5 without a total.
The order says the seniority will be revised once his Foundation Course marks are received. So the final position of all five officers may change slightly later.
What Is the Indian Postal Service?
IPoS is the Group ‘A’ service that manages India Post. Officers are selected through the UPSC Civil Services Examination. They go on to hold senior posts such as Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Director of Postal Services, Postmaster General and Chief Postmaster General.
