Ad-hoc Bonus 2025-26 Announced Before Diwali

Good news for Central Government employees! The Ministry of Finance (Department of Expenditure) has sanctioned the Non-Productivity Linked Bonus (Ad-hoc Bonus) for the accounting year 2025-26.

Eligible employees will get bonus equal to 30 days’ emoluments, with a calculation ceiling of Rs. 7,000 per month. This means the maximum bonus is Rs. 6,908.

Quick Facts

  • Order: OM No. 7/24/2007-E.III(A)
  • Date: 15 October 2026
  • Issued by: Shri Umesh Kumar Agarwal, Director, Department of Expenditure
  • Bonus for: Accounting year 2025-26
  • Quantum: 30 days’ emoluments
  • Calculation ceiling: Rs. 7,000 per month
  • Maximum amount: Rs. 6,908
  • Casual labour: Rs. 1,184 (if eligible)
  • Paid from: Existing budget of each Ministry/Department for 2026-27

Who is eligible?

  • All Group ‘C’ employees
  • All non-gazetted Group ‘B’ employees
  • …who are not covered by any Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) scheme
  • Also eligible: employees of Central Para Military Forces and Armed Forces
  • Also extends to UT Administration employees who follow Central Government pay patterns and are not covered by any other bonus or ex-gratia scheme

Basic conditions

  • You must be in service on 31 March 2026.
  • You must have at least 6 months of continuous service during 2025-26.
  • If you worked between 6 months and a full year, you get bonus pro rata (by number of months, rounded to the nearest month).
  • All amounts are rounded off to the nearest rupee.

How the Bonus Is Calculated

The formula in the order is simple:

Bonus = (Average monthly emoluments or Rs. 7,000, whichever is lower) × 30 ÷ 30.4

(30.4 is the average number of days in a month.)

Average monthly emolumentsCalculationBonus (rounded)
Rs. 7,000 or more7,000 × 30 ÷ 30.4 = 6,907.89Rs. 6,908
Rs. 5,000 (example)5,000 × 30 ÷ 30.4 = 4,934.21Rs. 4,934
Casual labour (Rs. 1,200)1,200 × 30 ÷ 30.4 = 1,184.21Rs. 1,184

Since the ceiling is Rs. 7,000, almost every regular Group C employee today gets the full Rs. 6,908 (if they worked the whole year).

Casual labour

Casual labourers are eligible if they worked at least 240 days a year for 3 years or more (or 206 days a year in offices with a 5-day week). They get Rs. 1,184, or less if their actual monthly pay is below Rs. 1,200. The “in service on 31 March” condition does not apply to casual labour.

What About Postal Employees and GDS?

This Finance Ministry order is for employees not covered by any Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) scheme.

In past years, the Department of Posts has issued its own bonus orders for departmental employees and a separate ex-gratia bonus order for GDS. So postal staff and GDS should wait for the Department of Posts’ own order for 2025-26 to know their exact bonus amount and rules.

We will cover the DoP bonus orders as soon as they are issued – stay connected!

For Exam Aspirants

Bonus rules (PLB vs Non-PLB, the 30.4 divisor, the Rs. 7,000 ceiling, eligibility conditions) are useful for India Post GK and service-rules questions in MTS to PA, Postman to PA and other departmental exams.
