What Is the BYOD Scheme?
BYOD stands for Bring Your Own Device.
In simple words — instead of waiting for the Department to give you a smartphone, you use your own Android phone for official postal work. In return, the Department pays you a fixed amount every month to cover the cost.
The scheme was already running in Departmental Post Offices and Delivery Centres. The new order dated 05.08.2026 now brings Branch Offices (BOs) into the same system.
Who Is Eligible?
The order clearly mentions the following staff working in Branch Offices:
- BPMs (Branch Postmasters)
- ABPMs (Assistant Branch Postmasters)
- Other eligible delivery staff posted at Branch Offices
Important condition: This applies only where smartphones have not been provided by India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) or by the Department.

Several Postal Circles complained that BYOD reimbursement was simply not being processed.
Reason: The option for booking expenditure under the above Head of Account is not available in APT 2.0 right now.
Action taken: CEPT has been requested to examine the matter and make the necessary provision in APT 2.0 on a priority basis, so that booking and timely payment can start.
So if your BYOD money was stuck — this is why. And it is being fixed.

- Open / verify your IPPB Savings Account. The money comes into this account only. No account, no payment.
- Complete BYOD enrolment through your reporting office as per the prescribed procedure.
- Keep the circular saved. Print or save the order dated 05.08.2026 for your record.
- Follow up through the right channel. For Branch Offices, follow up with IPPB / PBI Division, not with the Department.
