What is CGEGIS, in simple words?
CGEGIS is a group insurance scheme for Central Government employees. A small amount is cut from salary every month. Part of it goes to an Insurance Fund (for cover in case of death in service) and part to a Savings Fund. When you leave service, you get back your Savings Fund amount with interest. These quarterly tables tell accounts offices exactly how much that savings amount has grown to.
The Two Tables
As usual, there are two tables:
| Table | Who it is for | Subscription basis |
|---|---|---|
| Table 1 | Employees who opted out of the revised subscription rate from 1.1.1990 | Rs. 10 per month throughout |
| Table 2 | All other members (the normal case) | Rs. 10 per month from 1.1.1982 to 31.12.1989, and Rs. 15 per month from 1.1.1990 onwards |
Each table shows the accumulated savings value for every year of entry (1982 to 2026) and month of leaving (July, August or September 2026).
Sample values from Table 2 (per unit, month of leaving: July 2026)
| Year of joining the scheme | Savings fund value (Rs.) |
|---|---|
| 1982 | 63,130.60 |
| 2000 | 11,217.65 |
| 2005 | 6,942.69 |
| 2010 | 4,148.07 |
| 2015 | 2,278.69 |
| 2020 | 1,052.06 |
| 2025 | 210.42 |
| 2026 | 74.81 |
For example, under Table 2, a member who joined in 2025 and leaves in September 2026 has a value of Rs. 233.97 per unit; one who joined in 2026 has Rs. 96.75.
How to use it: The table value is for one unit of subscription. Your actual amount = table value × the number of units you subscribe (which depends on your group). Your accounts office or DDO will do the exact calculation.
Note: These sample figures are read from the scanned official tables. Always use the official tables for the final calculation.
Other details in the tables
- The share of subscription going to the Savings Fund is 68.75% (1.1.1982 to 31.12.1987) and 70% from 1.1.1988 onwards. The rest goes to the Insurance Fund.
- The tables also list the past interest rates used since 1982 – from 10–12% in the 1980s to 7.1% now.
Who Needs This?
- Postal employees retiring, resigning or leaving service between July and September 2026 – your CGEGIS savings amount will be worked out from these tables.
- DDOs, Postmasters and Postal Accounts offices who settle final dues.
- Families of employees who need to check final payments.
If you left service in this quarter, check with your DDO that your CGEGIS amount has been calculated using these new tables.
