This is good news for Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) in Delhi. The Office of the Chief Postmaster General, Delhi Circle, has declared the final result of the Competitive Examination (CE) for GDS to Postman/Mail Guard and GDS to MTS for the vacancy year 2026.
Two separate merit lists have been released:
- GDS to Postman: 88 candidates selected
- GDS to MTS: 71 candidates selected

How the Selection Was Made
The two posts use different rules.
GDS to Postman (Annexure-I):
- Rank is based on Paper-I + Paper-II combined marks (out of 142).
- Paper-III and Paper-IV (DEST) are qualifying only. You must pass both separately.
GDS to MTS (Annexure-II):
- Rank is based only on Paper-I marks (out of 94).
Big Benefit for Candidates Who Applied for Both Posts
Some GDS candidates applied for both Postman and MTS but were not selected for Postman because:
- they were rejected in Paper-II or Paper-III, or
- they did not qualify in Paper-III or DEST.
If these candidates qualified in Paper-I, they were considered for MTS posts based on merit, along with the other GDS to MTS candidates.
Tip for future aspirants: When you fill the GDS to MTS Form or the GDS to Postman form, apply for both posts if you are eligible. Your Paper-I score can still get you an MTS post if you miss the Postman post.

What this means: Almost all seats were filled against UR vacancies, and many SC, ST, OBC and EWS candidates got selected there on their own merit. The lowest UR score for MTS was only 38 out of 94. With steady preparation, this is a very achievable target.
One PwBD (OH) candidate was also selected in the Postman list.

Important Dates for Selected Candidates
- By 23 September 2026: Heads of Divisions will issue training-cum-posting orders.
- On or before 30 September 2026: Selected candidates must join as per the posting order.
- By 1 October 2026: Any refusal must be sent to the Circle Office by email.
Key Rules You Should Know
- Service details will be re-checked. Divisions will verify name, roll number, community, date of birth, date of engagement and vigilance status before issuing orders.
- Candidature can be cancelled. If a candidate is found ineligible later, or an error is found in the merit list, the selection will be cancelled.
- Punishment period matters. No candidate will be appointed while a punishment period is still running. One selected candidate in the Postman list will be appointed only after their punishment period ends.
- Reserved category appointments are provisional. For SC, ST, OBC, EWS and PwBD candidates, the appointment depends on certificate verification, which must be done within one month of joining.
- No revaluation. Revaluation requests will not be accepted.
- The merit list may change. The Competent Authority can make changes as per the rules.
- Detailed marks are coming soon. Marks of all candidates and details of filled/unfilled vacancies will be released shortly.
How to Get a Copy of Your Answer Sheet (RTI)
You can apply under the RTI Act to get a copy of your answer sheet:
- Fee: ₹25 per paper (with answer key) + ₹10 RTI application fee
- Payment: Deposit in post office accounts
- Submission: Apply through your own Division/Unit with the original fee receipt

Not Selected This Time? Here’s Your Plan
This result shows that Paper-I is the most important paper. It decides the MTS list and counts for the Postman list too.
- Focus on Paper-I first. A strong Paper-I score gives you two chances: Postman and MTS.
- Solve GDS to MTS Previous Year Question Papers. They show the real pattern and the topics that come up again and again.
- Take regular GDS to MTS Mock Tests. They build speed and accuracy.
- Don’t ignore the descriptive part of Paper-III. Some candidates scored 0 to 2 out of 20 here, which is very risky.
- Practise typing daily for DEST. It is qualifying, but failing it ends your Postman chance.
