This is the same vacancy detail that everyone was waiting for since the main notification came out on 01-06-2026, where the department had only written “vacancies will be intimated in due course”. Now the wait is over. The competent authority has approved the numbers.

Here the picture is different. Dehradun has 6, RMS ‘DN’ Division has 4, and Almora has 3. So the seats are spread out. Even small divisions have something.

What This Notification Actually Means for You
Let me explain it in very simple words.
- GDS to MTS — 20 seats are open through Competitive Examination. Only GDS employees can apply.
- GDS to Postman / Mail Guard — 34 seats are open. Again only for GDS employees.
- MTS to Postman / Mail Guard — 42 seats through LDCE. Only for MTS staff.
- A GDS employee can look at both MTS and Postman options. Check your eligibility, service period and division before filling the form.
- Zero vacancy in your division does not mean the exam is cancelled. It means no seat in that particular cadre in that division this year. Vacancies change every vacancy year.
GDS to MTS Selection Process (In Short)
- The department conducts a written Competitive Examination (CE) for GDS to MTS.
- Merit is prepared on the basis of marks obtained.
- Reservation is applied as per the roster shown above (UR, SC, ST, OBC, EWS + horizontal for PwD).
- Final selection is subject to eligibility, document verification and departmental clearance.
- Admit card and result are released on the respective circle website.

GDS to MTS Syllabus — Main Areas
The departmental exam usually covers these portions:
- General Knowledge & Current Affairs — national, international, sports, awards, India Post related GK
- Mathematics / Quantitative Aptitude — percentage, average, profit-loss, time and work, simple interest
- Reasoning Ability — series, coding-decoding, blood relation, direction, analogy
- English Language — grammar, error spotting, synonyms, antonyms, comprehension
- Postal Manuals & Rules — this is the scoring part, and this is where most candidates lose marks
Honestly speaking, the Postal Manual portion decides your rank. General subjects everyone can do somehow. The departmental portion needs proper guidance.
How to Prepare — A Simple Plan
- Start with Previous Year Question Papers. Solve at least 5 years of GDS to MTS Previous Year Question Papers. The paper pattern repeats a lot.
- Make short notes of Postal Manual rules, DOP circulars and important dates.
- Give one mock test every week. Then increase to two per week before the exam.
- Fix a time slot. Duty ke baad even 90 minutes daily is enough if you are regular.
- Join online classes if you are in a remote division and coaching is not available nearby. Recorded classes help a lot for night study after duty hours.
- Revise the syllabus PDF every 15 days so nothing is left out.
