India Post reshapes its parcel hub network

India Post has changed the way its parcel hubs are organised. From 7 October 2026, the network has 60 L1 Parcel Hubs and 127 L2 Parcel Hubs.

As part of this change, 19 L1 hubs have been downgraded to L2. Each of them is now linked to a bigger L1 hub nearby. Bags will be routed as per the new network and new PIN code ranges.

This update comes from the Parcel Directorate’s orders, shared with staff through a letter from RMS ‘EK’ Division, Kochi (Kerala). Let us understand it in simple words.

What are L1 and L2 parcel hubs?

Think of it like a bus network with big terminals and smaller stops.

  • L1 Parcel Hub – a big, main hub. It handles a large area (by PIN code range) and sends parcels to other L1 hubs across India.
  • L2 Parcel Hub – a smaller, local hub. It collects and delivers parcels in its area and is linked to a “parent” L1 hub.

When an L1 hub is downgraded to L2, it stops working as a main exchange point. Its long-distance parcels now go through its parent L1 hub. The aim is to reduce extra handling, save time and make the network simpler.

The 19 hubs downgraded from L1 to L2

North East Circle has the most changes, with 5 hubs now linked to Guwahati or Silchar.
