What Is This Guide About?

India Post is moving its work to the new DOP IT 2.0 (APT) platform, built by CEPT (Centre for Excellence in Postal Technology). Postal Life Insurance (PLI) and Rural PLI work now runs in a module called the Insurance Management System (IMS).

This blog is based on the Day 1 PLI Training (IMS) presentation made by Shri Vishwesh Pathak, Trainer, Solapur Division. It shows the full journey of a new PLI policy, from the moment a customer walks up to the counter until the policy bond is booked for dispatch.

Note: The screenshots in the training deck come from the training portal (training.cept.gov.in). The deck itself says it is only for training purposes. Screens and limits on the live system may look slightly different.

The 4 Roles in a New PLI Policy

Think of it as a relay race. Each person does their part and passes the file on.

  1. Counter PA: Makes the quote, creates the proposal and customer, and collects the first premium
  2. CPC User: Indexes the policy, fills in the details and uploads documents
  3. Quality Checker (CPC Supervisor): Checks everything screen by screen and gives a QC decision
  4. Approver (Sr. Postmaster): Does the final check and approves, and the policy number is generated

After approval, the CPC User prints the bond and sends it out.

Step 1: Counter PA – Quote, Proposal and First Premium

Login and open IMS

  • Log in to the Employee Portal with your User ID and Password
  • Click on Insurance Management System (PLI)
  • Under Policy Issue, click New Business Quotes

Create the quote

  • Enter personal details: insurant name, gender, employment category, age proof type, mobile, email and pincode
  • Select Product (PLI or RPLI, as per eligibility), Policy (for example Endowment Assurance – Santosh) and Date of Birth
  • Enter Sum Assured and Premium Ceasing Age, then click Calculate Quote
  • Choose the premium mode: Monthly, Quarterly, Half-Yearly or Annually
  • The screen also shows other sum assured options, with bonus and maturity value for each
  • Click Create Quote, then download the quote PDF. You will need the Quote Reference Number for indexing

Example from the training screen: Santosh plan, ₹3,00,000 sum assured, ceasing age 60. Monthly premium shown: ₹1,485.

Create the proposal and customer

  • Select the scheme, fill eligibility details and enter the Quote Ref. Number
  • Tick the box if the person already holds a policy. Otherwise click Create Customer for a new customer
  • Select the Agent Code (if any)
  • Enter Application Date, Date of Declaration, Date of Proposal and Date of Indexing
  • Enter customer details with Aadhaar, PAN, address, mobile and email
  • Upload Aadhaar and the customer’s photo, tick both check boxes, then Create Customer → Next → Submit

Collect the first premium

  • Enter the amount, then click Authorize → Payment → Print Receipt
  • ⚠️ Common error: If the Booking Counter shift has not begun, payment will fail. Do the Shift Begin first, then retry.

Step 2: CPC User – Policy Indexing

  • Log in and open IMS, then go to Policy Indexing
  • Search by Quote Ref. Number or Mobile Number and click Load the Quotes
  • Or go straight to the Inbox. The policy is already there, so just click Indexed
  • Select the agent (if any) and fill all mandatory columns, then click Save & Continue on each screen
  • Select Payment Mode, then Save & Calculate
  • Enter the Doctor Code (for medical cases)
  • Upload the mandatory documents (Browse → Upload → Save & Continue)
  • Tick the check box, select Submit to QC, then click Submit

  2. First Premium Details
  3. Insurant Details
  4. Nominations
  5. Existing Policy Details
  6. Base Coverage
  7. Medical Information
  8. Bank Details

  10. Submit QC Decision

QC decision options:

  • ✅ QC Approve

A comment is required (for example “Forwarded for approval”). Then click Submit Decision.

Step 4: Approver (Sr. Postmaster) – Final Approval

  • Open the Inbox, then click Proceed to Approval
  • Check all fields and Submit
  • 🎉 Policy Number is generated successfully

  • Premium Book
  • Acceptance Letter

Dispatch the bond:

  • Go to Bond Dispatch → Dispatch
  • Filter “Yet to book / Not booked” and click Fetch
  • Select the article, enter the article number and booking date, then click Book Now

Whole Process in One Line

Quote → Customer & Proposal → First Premium → Indexing → QC → Approval → Policy Number → Bond Print → Dispatch

Why Should You Learn This?

  • For working PAs and SAs: IMS is now part of daily counter and CPC work. Knowing the flow saves time and avoids rejections at QC.
  • For exam aspirants: PLI/RPLI rules, products and procedures are a regular part of the Postal Assistant Exam, the PA SA Departmental Exam, and the MTS to PA and Postman to PA Departmental Exam syllabus. Questions on new technology like DOP IT 2.0 are also asked in India Post GK and India Post Current Affairs sections.
  • For GDS and MTS staff: If you plan to sit the GDS to MTS, GDS to Postman or MTS to PA exams, knowing the PLI workflow gives you a head start when you reach the counter.

Pair this practical knowledge with good India Post Study Material, India Post Previous Year Question Papers and regular India Post Mock Tests to cover both theory and practice.
