Quick tips: Bonus posts get heavy traffic in the days before Diwali, so publish quickly and share early. Put “₹13,816” in the title or first paragraph, because people search for the exact amount. Link to the earlier ad-hoc bonus blog and to your course pages, and track those clicks in Google Analytics.

Good News: India Post Bonus 2025-26 Order Is Out

The wait is over. The Department of Posts has issued the Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) order for 2025-26. Regular employees get bonus equal to 60 days of emoluments. Gramin Dak Sevaks get ex-gratia bonus on the same 60-day basis, and casual labourers get ad-hoc bonus.

This is the postal bonus order that staff wait for every year before Diwali. It is separate from the general ad-hoc bonus order of the Finance Ministry for other central government employees.

Quick Facts

  • Order No.: PP-26/1/2020-PAP
  • Issued by: P.A.P. Section, Establishment Division, Department of Posts
  • Signed by: Gurvinder Singh, ADG (PAP)
  • Date: 16.10.2026
  • Accounting year: 2025-26 (1.4.2025 to 31.3.2026)
  • Bonus days: 60 days
  • Monthly ceiling: ₹7,000 for regular staff and GDS; notional ₹1,200 for casual labourers
  • Maximum bonus (our calculation): ₹13,816 for regular staff and GDS; ₹2,368 for casual labourers

Who Gets the Bonus and How Much

CategoryType of bonusMonthly ceilingMaximum for full year
MTS, Group C (Postman, Mail Guard, PA, SA etc.) and non-gazetted Group BProductivity Linked Bonus₹7,000₹13,816
Regular Gramin Dak Sevaks (BPM, ABPM, Dak Sevak)Ex-gratia bonus₹7,000 (TRCA + DA)₹13,816
Full Time Casual Labourers and Temporary Status Casual LabourersAd-hoc bonus₹1,200 (notional)₹2,368

How the Maximum Is Worked Out

The order gives this formula:

Bonus = Average monthly emoluments × 60 ÷ 30.4

(30.4 is the average number of days in a month.)

  • Regular staff and GDS: ₹7,000 × 60 ÷ 30.4 = ₹13,815.79, rounded to ₹13,816
  • Casual labourers: ₹1,200 × 60 ÷ 30.4 = ₹2,368.42, rounded to ₹2,368. Per day, that is about ₹6.49 (the yearly maximum divided by 365).

The order sets the formula and the ceiling. The rupee amounts above are our own calculation, and the order says each amount is rounded off to the nearest rupee.

Example

Almost every MTS, Postman and PA earns more than ₹7,000 a month, so most regular staff who worked the full year will get the full ₹13,816. A GDS whose TRCA plus DA was above ₹7,000 every month will also get ₹13,816.

Important Rules You Should Know

For Regular Employees (MTS, Postman, PA/SA, Group B non-gazetted)

  • What counts as emoluments: Basic Pay, Dearness Allowance, SB Allowance, Deputation (Duty) Allowance, and Training Allowance for faculty in training institutes.
  • Average emoluments: the total salary from 1.4.2025 to 31.3.2026, with each month capped at ₹7,000, divided by 12.
  • EOL and dies-non: the ₹7,000 ceiling is cut proportionately for those days.
  • Suspension or dies-non cases: the old clarifications dated 11.6.1981 and 8.2.1988 will apply.
  • Retired, resigned or on deputation during 1.4.2025 to 31.3.2026: still eligible, using the same formula.

For Gramin Dak Sevaks

  • Base: TRCA plus DA drawn from 1.4.2025 to 31.3.2026, divided by 12, with each month capped at ₹7,000.
  • Substitute GDS: TRCA drawn by a substitute is not counted, either for the substitute or for the regular GDS.
  • GDS working in Postman or MTS short-term vacancies: governed by OM No. 23-01/2019-GDS dated 23.10.2019.
  • Part of the year (new appointment, put off duty, or left service): proportionate ex-gratia bonus.
  • Put off duty or dies-non: the same 1981 and 1988 clarifications apply.

For Casual Labourers

  • Eligibility: worked 8 hours a day for at least 240 days a year for three years or more as on 31.3.2026. In offices with a 5-day week, it is 206 days a year.
  • Payment: per-day rate × number of days actually engaged during 2025-26.
  • If actual wages were below ₹1,200 in any month, the actual wages are used.

Payment Details

  • Amounts are rounded to the nearest rupee.
  • The bonus is charged to the head “Rewards” and paid from the 2026-27 budget grant.
  • Circles must send the total amount paid and the number of employees to the Budget Section.

Note: Para 3.4 of the order says “01.04.2026 to 31.03.2026” for GDS who left service. This looks like a typing error for 01.04.2025, since every other para uses the 2025-26 period.

What This Means for You

  • Expect the credit soon. With the order out on 16 October, divisions can start processing. Payment usually happens before Diwali, but the actual date depends on your division.
  • GDS friends, check that your TRCA and DA for every month of 2025-26 are counted correctly, especially if you were put off duty or worked as a substitute at any point.
  • Recently retired or on deputation? You are still eligible. Follow up with your DDO if it does not come.

A Small Bonus Today, a Bigger Salary Tomorrow

Every GDS gets the same bonus ceiling, but promotion changes your monthly pay, DA and long-term benefits. Moving from GDS to MTS or Postman, and then to PA, is the surest way to grow in India Post.
