The Department of Posts has issued a fresh public notice about international mail booking. This notice comes from the IR & GB Division at Dak Bhawan, New Delhi, and is dated 22.07.2026. It updates customers on which countries now have resumed postal service, and which ones still remain suspended.
This is useful information for anyone who regularly sends letters or parcels abroad through India Post, or who works in the postal department and needs to guide customers correctly.
Background of This Notice
- This notice continues an earlier Public Notice No. DA-19/25/2024-DA-DOP dated 29.04.2026.
- Booking of international mail to certain destinations was temporarily suspended earlier. The reason was a force majeure situation in the Middle East, which disrupted air connectivity.
- The situation has since improved for many destinations. Alternative transit arrangements have now been established.
Countries Where Service Has Resumed
Postal services to the countries listed in Annexure-A are resumed with immediate effect. Customers may still experience delays in delivery beyond the usual service standards.
The resumed list includes a wide range of countries, such as:
- Afghanistan, Angola, Azerbaijan, Bahamas, Bahrain, Bermuda, Bolivia
- Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Chad, Cuba
- Dem. Rep. of the Congo, Djibouti, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador
- Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Eswatini, Gabon, Guinea, Guyana
- Kyrgyzstan, Lesotho, Mali, Mauritania, Mongolia, Mozambique
- Niger, Panama (Rep.), Rwanda, Suriname, Tajikistan
- Trinidad and Tobago, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Venezuela
For most of these countries, service has resumed for letter and parcel categories. Some countries, like Bahrain, Rwanda, and Dem. Rep. of the Congo, also have EMS and ITPS service resumed, along with letter and parcel.
Countries Where Service Still Remains Suspended
Due to the ongoing geopolitical situation, air connectivity and transit arrangements have not been restored for the countries listed in Annexure-B. Booking of postal services to these destinations continues to remain suspended until further notice:
- Guatemala
- Honduras
- Iran
- Iraq
- Israel
- Kiribati
- Kuwait
- Lebanon
- Nicaragua
- Palestine
What Customers Can Do If Their Article Is Stuck
If a customer has already booked an article for one of the suspended countries in Annexure-B, and the article has not yet been dispatched from India, here is what can be done:
- Submit a written application to the booking post office to recall the article.
- Claim a refund of the postage paid.
- This facility is only for articles that are still lying in India and have not been sent abroad.
- No other liability is accepted by the Department of Posts beyond this refund.
- If the article is already lying at an Office of Exchange, it can be returned to the booking office once a recall request is received through the proper channel.
What Happens Next
The Department of Posts has confirmed that the situation is being monitored continuously. Postal services to the remaining suspended destinations will resume once suitable flight connectivity and transit arrangements are restored.
This notice is signed by Dr. Ankush Bhagat, ADG (International Mail), with Annexure A and B enclosed. A copy has also been sent to GM (CEPT), with a request to enable booking for the resumed destinations across POS, DNK, and IBC systems.
