The Kerala Postal Circle has issued an important order regarding the grant of Special Casual Leave during natural calamities.

What Exactly Has Been Ordered?
The order is short and very clear. Special Casual Leave may be granted to eligible officials who satisfy all of the following conditions:
- The official is affected by the flood
- The official is residing at a place 3 miles away from the office
- The official is unable to attend office due to dislocation of traffic arising out of natural calamities

What Is Special Casual Leave (SCL)?
Many employees, especially newly appointed staff and GDS, are not fully clear about this. Here is the simple explanation.
- Special Casual Leave is not deducted from your normal Casual Leave account.
- It is granted for specific approved situations – natural calamities, blood donation, sports events, trade union work, sterilisation, and a few other categories notified by the government.
- During SCL, you are treated as on duty. Your pay and allowances are not affected.
- It has to be sanctioned by the competent authority. It is not automatic.
