Haridwar Gets Its Own Postal Division
From 1 November 2026, Uttarakhand Postal Circle will have a new Haridwar Postal Division, split from Dehradun Division. A new Kedarnath Postal Sub-Division, with headquarters at Guptkashi, will also be created under Chamoli Division.
The Office Memorandum was issued by the Establishment Division, Dak Bhawan, on 12 October 2026. The number is Q-13/28/2026-PE-I-DOP, and it is signed by Shri Dushyant Mudgal, DDG (Establishment). It is part of the nationwide rationalization of postal units across 16 circles.

2. New Kedarnath Sub-Division (Chamoli Division)
Kedarnath Sub-Division is carved mainly out of Rudraprayag Sub-Division, and offices are rebalanced among Gopeshwar, Karanprayag East and Karanprayag West.

What this means: Rudraprayag Sub-Division shrinks from 96 to 63 BOs. Gopeshwar shrinks from 88 to 72. Smaller Sub-Divisions in hilly areas mean Inspectors can reach Branch Offices more easily.
What Happens to Staff?
- Group B and C staff will be redeployed by the Head of Circle, in consultation with CIFA and the Region or Division.
- Willingness first: moves will be based on willingness or request, to reduce cost and inconvenience.
- Only live posts can be moved, not “deemed to be abolished” ones.
- Group A officers: separate orders will come from the Postal Directorate.
- Until posts are moved: the new units will run through local arrangement or additional charge.
- No extra funds: costs will be met from the existing budget.
- One-year review: revenue and the Expense Coverage Ratio (ECR) will be compared after one year.
A Note for GDS and Exam Aspirants
If you are a GDS in Haridwar district, or in the Rudraprayag area, your Branch Office will report to a new Division or Sub-Division from 1 November. Your post and pay do not change. Future Division-wise vacancies in the GDS to MTS and GDS to Postman exams may show Haridwar as a separate Division.
