More Time for Associations to Fix Their Bye-laws

The Department of Posts (SR Section) is checking the applications sent by Service Associations and GDS Associations for membership verification and recognition.

On 6 October 2026, the Department had pointed out some issues in their constitutions / bye-laws and asked all associations to make the needed amendments by 14 October 2026.

Now the Competent Authority has extended this deadline to 26 October 2026.

Quick Facts

  • Letter No.: 10/6/2026-SR-DOP
  • Issued by: Shri Nahar Singh Meena, Assistant Director General (SR & Legal)
  • Digitally signed on: 14 October 2026
  • Sent to: All Service Associations and GDS Associations (as per attached list)
  • Earlier letter: dated 06.10.2026 (observations on bye-laws)

Old vs New Deadline

Last date for submitting amended constitution / bye-laws
Earlier14 October 2026
Now (extended)26 October 2026

Important warning

If an association does not make the required amendments in time, its application for membership verification / recognition may not be considered.

What This Means for Employees and GDS

Recognised associations speak for employees and GDS before the Department on pay, promotions, transfers, working conditions and departmental exams. Membership verification decides which associations get official recognition and the facilities that come with it.

This extension gives every association 12 more days to correct its bye-laws, so that no association is left out on a technical point. If you are a member or office bearer of a service or GDS association, check that your association has filed its amended bye-laws before 26 October 2026.

For Exam Aspirants

The SR (Staff Relations) Section of the Directorate handles matters of service associations, including recognition and verification. Such terms can come up in India Post GK questions.
