If you are a GDS or MTS working in Punjab Circle, especially in Amritsar Division, this update is worth your attention.
The Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Amritsar Division, has released the post-based reservation rosters for MTS and Postman cadres, updated up to 31 December 2025. These rosters show how many posts are sanctioned, how many are filled, and where the shortages are, category-wise.
Let’s break it down in simple words.
What Is a Reservation Roster?
A reservation roster is an official register that every division maintains for each cadre. It shows:
- Total posts sanctioned in the cadre
- Which roster point is reserved for SC, ST, OBC, EWS or UR
- Who has been appointed against each point
- How many posts are filled and how many are still vacant
It helps the department fill vacancies fairly as per reservation rules. For aspirants, it’s a good way to understand where future vacancies may come from.
Three Rosters Released
The document covers three rosters:
- MTS (Multi Tasking Staff) – Direct recruitment (100%)
- Postman – Direct recruitment (50% quota)
- Postman – Departmental promotion (50% quota)
Reservation percentages used: SC 15%, ST 7.5%, OBC 27%, EWS 10% (for the departmental Postman roster, OBC is nil).
1. MTS Roster (Direct Recruitment)
Posts in cadre: 84 (81 + 3 LR)
| Category | Sanctioned | In Position | Shortage (-) / Excess (+) |
|---|---|---|---|
| SC | 13 | 23 | +10 |
| ST | 6 | 0 | -6 |
| OBC | 23 | 17 | -6 |
| UR | 34 | 32 | -2 |
| EWS | 8 | 3 | -5 |
| Total | 84 | 75 | -9 |
Key points:
- 9 MTS posts are short overall.
- No ST official is in position against 6 ST posts.
- SC shows an excess because many SC officials were adjusted against open (UR) points on merit.
- Remarks like “GDS SE cum Fitness 2025” show that some MTS posts were recently filled by GDS through the selection process, which is a good sign for GDS to MTS aspirants.
2. Postman Roster (Direct Recruitment – 50%)
Posts in cadre: 128
| Category | Sanctioned | In Position | Shortage (-) / Excess (+) |
|---|---|---|---|
| SC | 19 | 36 | +17 |
| ST | 10 | 0 | -10 |
| OBC | 35 | 20 | -15 |
| EWS | 13 | 3 | -10 |
| UR | 51 | 53 | +2 |
| Total | 128 | 112 | -16 |
Key points:
- 16 posts are short in the direct quota.
- The biggest gaps are in OBC (15), ST (10) and EWS (10).
- Several entries are marked “GDS”, which means GDS officials have been selected to Postman posts under this quota too.
3. Postman Roster (Departmental Promotion – 50%)
This is the most important part for departmental aspirants.
Posts in cadre: 127
| Category | Sanctioned | In Position | Shortage (-) |
|---|---|---|---|
| SC | 19 | 3 | -16 |
| ST | 10 | 0 | -10 |
| OBC | Nil | 0 | 0 |
| UR | 98 | 24 | -74 |
| Total | 127 | 27 | -100 |
Key points:
- Out of 127 departmental Postman posts, only 27 are filled.
- That means 100 posts are short in the promotion quota.
- 74 of these are UR posts, open to all eligible officials.
What Do the Remarks Mean?
You may notice some short remarks in the roster. Here is what the common ones mean:
- Rule 38 – The official joined on transfer from another division/unit.
- OBC/SC/EWS ag OC or UR – A reserved-category candidate was appointed against an open point on merit.
- Repatriated from APS – The official came back from the Army Postal Service.
- Compass – Compassionate appointment.
- GDS SE cum Fitness 2025 – Filled from GDS through the selection-cum-fitness process in 2025.
What This Means for GDS and MTS Aspirants
The message is simple: the opportunity is big in Amritsar Division.
- With 100 departmental Postman posts short, there is a strong chance of more vacancies being offered through the GDS to Postman Departmental Exam and MTS to Postman route in the coming cycles.
- MTS shortages and recent GDS-based fillings show that the GDS to MTS route is also active in Punjab Circle.
Please note: A roster shortage does not automatically mean the same number of posts will be notified. The exact vacancies are declared in the official exam notification by the Circle. But the roster gives a clear picture of the demand.
