Mail Motor Service Reservation Roster 2025: Vacancy Position for MTS, PA, Drivers and Artisans

Most rosters we see are for post offices. This one is a little different. It comes from a Mail Motor Service (MMS) unit under Maharashtra Circle, the wing of India Post that runs mail vans, maintains vehicles and employs drivers, mechanics and support staff.

The unit has shared its post-based reservation rosters for 10 categories of posts, mostly as on 31 December 2025. Here is a simple breakdown of what they show.

Quick Overview of All Rosters

Biggest openings: Staff Car Driver (8) and MTS (5).

1. Multi Tasking Staff (MTS)

This is the one most useful for GDS and outsiders looking at MTS posts.

  • Sanctioned: 14 | Working: 9 | Vacant: 5
  • Recruitment is on a local/regional basis under the MTS Recruitment Rules 2018 (amended 30.08.2023).
  • Reservation here follows the regional pattern: SC 10%, ST 9%, OBC 27%, EWS 10%.

Category shortfall:

CategoryRequiredAvailableShortfall
OBC32-1
SC10-1
ST10-1
EWS10-1

Next roster points to be filled: SC-1, EWS-1, ST-1, OBC-3 and UR.

So the upcoming MTS vacancies will largely go to reserved categories first, followed by one UR point.

2. Postal Assistant (PA)

  • Direct Recruitment: 5 sanctioned, 4 working, 1 vacancy. The next point in the replacement roster is earmarked for OBC.
  • Departmental Promotion: 4 sanctioned, 4 working, no vacancy right now.
  • Recruitment Rules 2022 apply.

A small cadre, but a good reminder that even MMS units have PA posts. Promotion openings will come up as current officials retire or move.

3. Staff Car Driver

  • Sanctioned: 28 | Working: 20 | Vacant: 8
  • This follows a 100-point roster.

Category shortfall:

CategoryRequiredAvailableShortfall
OBC770
SC42-2
ST21-1
EWS20-2

Next roster points: EWS-2, UR, OBC-6, UR, UR, OBC-7, SC-4 and ST-2.

Many drivers here joined on transfer from other MMS units (Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata, Bengaluru), which shows transfers under Rule 38 are common in this cadre.

4. Skilled and Highly Skilled Artisans

  • Skilled Artisan Grade-III: 1 vacancy each shown in direct and departmental rosters (combined DP+DR strength of 7). In the direct roster, the next point is earmarked for OBC. In the promotion roster, points 13 (UR) and 14 (ST-1) are open.
  • HSA Grade-II and Grade-I: Fully filled, no vacancy.

The roster also shows a clear career path in action: several mechanics, blacksmiths and tinsmiths moved from Grade-III to HSA Grade-II and then Grade-I, and one mechanic was even promoted as PA.

5. Despatch Rider

  • Sanctioned: 4 | Working: 1 | Vacant: 3
  • These rosters are older (as on 31.12.2021), so the current position may be different.

Reservation Percentages at a Glance

  • Most rosters: SC 15%, ST 7.5%, OBC 27%, EWS 10%
  • Departmental promotion rosters: SC 15%, ST 7.5% only
  • MTS (regional basis): SC 10%, ST 9%, OBC 27%, EWS 10%

What This Means for Aspirants

  • If you are aiming for MTS, watch for local/regional recruitment in Maharashtra Circle, as 5 posts are vacant in this unit alone.
  • For serving MTS and Group C staff, the roster shows a real path upward, including promotion to Postal Assistant. This is exactly where good MTS to PA preparation pays off.
  • For GDS in Maharashtra Circle, MTS vacancies across units add to the chances in the GDS to MTS Departmental Exam.

Please note: Roster vacancies are not the same as notified vacancies. The actual number of posts is announced in the official recruitment or exam notification.
