The Office of the Chief Postmaster General, Bihar Circle, Patna has released the DEST result for the Combined LDCE/CE-2026 held on 12 July 2026. In total, 290 candidates have qualified for the Data Entry Skill Test — 141 from the MTS cadre and 149 from GDS.
The skill test will be held on 6 September 2026 (Sunday).
If you appeared in this exam, read the full post carefully. There are a few conditions in this circular that many candidates miss, especially the one about how the final merit list will actually be prepared.

Who Has Been Shortlisted?
A candidate has been declared eligible for DEST only if both of these were satisfied:
- Minimum qualifying marks in Paper-I and Paper-II combined — that is, the total of both papers taken together, not each paper separately.
- Minimum qualifying marks in Paper-III separately.
Only candidates who cleared both conditions appear in the annexures.
DEST Qualifying Criteria (Paper-IV)
The criteria follow Directorate letter no. 17-08/2018-SPN-I dated 19.12.2022.

So you get 15 minutes and the paper carries 25 marks. A General category candidate needs roughly 19 marks out of 25 to clear it. There is no room for casual typing here.
The Most Important Point: Merit Is Not Based on All Papers
Read this line twice:
- Merit list will be prepared only on the basis of marks secured in Paper-I and Paper-II.
- Paper-III and Paper-IV (DEST) are qualifying in nature only.
What this means for you:
- Your typing speed will not add a single mark to your merit position.
- But if you fail DEST, you are out — no matter how good your Paper-I and Paper-II marks were.
- Candidates who clear DEST become eligible to be considered in the merit list for selection as Postman / Mail Guard.
Every year some strong written-exam candidates lose their promotion at this exact stage. Do not let 15 minutes undo months of study.

Individual names and roll numbers are given in Annexure-I and Annexure-II of the official circular. Check your roll number carefully against the list.
What Happens Next
- Venue and other DEST details will be circulated separately by the Circle Office.
- CEPT Mysuru has been asked to upload the documents on the India Post website.
- All Divisional Heads / Unit Heads have been asked to circulate the result among the shortlisted candidates.
- If there is any mistake in your particulars — roll number, name spelling and so on — inform the Circle Office immediately. Do not wait till the DEST day.
How to Prepare for DEST in the Remaining Days
You have about two and a half weeks. Use them properly.
- Practise typing on a keyboard, not on a phone. Muscle memory matters.
- Do at least three 15-minute sessions daily at the exact test length.
- Focus on accuracy first, speed second. Errors cost more than slow typing.
- Practise with English passages containing numbers, symbols and capital letters.
- Learn to not look at the screen while typing — looking up and down wastes seconds.
- Do a full mock at the same time of day as your test slot.
A candidate typing 30 words per minute with 98% accuracy usually clears comfortably. A candidate typing 45 wpm with heavy backspacing often does not.
