Solved: Maths and Reasoning Questions
Q1 (Series A Q143): Coins in a bag. Answer: B (60)
- Let ₹1 coins be 3x and 25 paise coins be x. Then 50 paise coins = 220 − 4x.
- Value: 0.25x + 3x + 0.5(220 − 4x) = 160.
- So 1.25x = 50, which gives x = 40.
- 50 paise coins = 220 − 160 = 60.
Q2 (Series A Q144): Two trains from Mumbai. Answer: A (210 km)
- The first train gets a 30-minute head start, covering 30 km.
- The second train gains 10 km every hour, so it catches up in 3 hours.
- Distance = 70 × 3 = 210 km.
Q5 (Series A Q147): Day after Holi. Answer: B (Thursday)
- Today is Monday, so the birthday (day after tomorrow) is Wednesday.
- Holi is the same day next week, which is also a Wednesday.
- The next day is Thursday.
Q141 (Series A Q140): Dinner party bill. Answer: D (₹1536.08)
- 13 people spent 13 × 79 = ₹1027.
- The other 6 each spent average + ₹4. Let the total be T, so T = 1027 + 6(T/19 + 4).
- That gives 13T/19 = 1051, so T = ₹1536.08.
Q145 (Series A Q141): Keeping cost the same. Answer: A (about 17%)
- Old cost = raw material 100 + labour 25 = 125.
- New raw price is 1.15 times, and labour becomes 30% of raw cost. So cost per unit of usage = 1.15 × 1.30 = 1.495.
- Usage needed = 125 ÷ 149.5 = 0.836, a cut of about 17%.
Q149 (Series A Q142): Retailer’s profit. Answer: C (₹6)
- Customer pays 95% of list price = ₹38, so list price = ₹40.
- Retailer buys at 80% of ₹40 = ₹32.
- Profit = 38 − 32 = ₹6.
Key Observations
- New laws were tested. BNSS 2023 questions appeared on warrant cases, proclaimed offenders and the Nagaland exception. Candidates still reading the old CrPC would have lost marks.
- Pension Rules 2021 and NPS got heavy weight. Many questions came from CCS (Pension) Rules 2021, NPS exit rules and the NPS gratuity rules.
- Long, case-based questions. Many questions described a situation and asked for the correct rule, which takes more reading time.
- Financial powers were tested by item number. Schedule II-A and Schedule III limits were asked directly, which needs focused memorisation.
- Current affairs from 2025–26. PRAGATI, CWG 2026, T20 World Cup 2026, PFBR and Arya Samaj’s 150 years all came up.
- Check debatable questions. A few questions, especially in reasoning and law, may have more than one possible view. If you think the key is wrong, send feedback with rule proof by 5:30 PM on 6 October 2026.
Overall level: Tough and lengthy. The reasoning, maths and English questions were the most scoring part, while the rule-based questions needed deep reading.
Preparation Tips
- Do not skip reasoning, maths and English. These are quick and scoring. Practise 20 questions daily without a calculator.
- Read the new rules, not the old ones. Focus on CCS (Pension) Rules 2021, NPS gratuity rules and BNSS 2023.
- Make tables for financial powers. Write Schedule II-A and III items with their limits on one sheet and revise it weekly.
- Learn Constitution articles in pairs. Link each Fundamental Duty with its matching Directive Principle, for example 51A(g) with 48A.
- Follow current affairs month by month. Government schemes, sports events and science missions are asked regularly.
- Practise full-length papers in 3 hours. Paper-III is lengthy, so time management matters. Use India Post Mock Tests and India Post Previous Year Question Papers for practice.
These tips also help candidates preparing for the PA SA Departmental Exam, MTS to PA and Postman to PA, where the Constitution, reasoning and service rules overlap.
