How to Prepare for the PO & RMS Accountant Exam

Even though it is an open book exam, most candidates fail because they cannot find the rule fast enough. Books are allowed – time is not.

  • Know your books, not just the rules. Practise flipping to FRs, SRs, FHB and Postal Manual Volumes quickly.
  • Focus on practical questions. 70 out of 100 marks come from practical problems – pay fixation, leave calculation, pension, GPF, DA/HRA arrears.
  • Solve previous year question papers. The same style of practical sums repeat every year.
  • Use sticky tabs and index markers on your manuals before the exam day.
  • Attempt mock tests with a timer. Three hours go very fast in a with-books exam.
  • Give Paper-I your best shot. 60% marks means exemption in the next two exams – that is a huge advantage.
